Young Lives team

The strength of Young Lives lies in the knowledge, expertise, skills and diversity of the project team. Young Lives draws together international and national experts in the field of child poverty across a wide range of approaches and disciplines – ranging from medical science, psychology, statistics, economics, education, sociology, anthropology, political science, policy and influencing, and research communication. It is the composition of the whole team which lends Young Lives its unique character and potential.
In each country, the quantitative research is managed by a Principal Investigator and the qualitative research is led by a senior researcher. They oversee fieldwork and data management activities and the production of research publications and policy briefs. The research teams work closely with national Policy Coordinators, who are responsible for devising and implementing policy influencing strategies for each country. The policy coordinators make links to government and civil society, ensuring the involvement of different stakeholders and that the research results are disseminated locally as well as internationally.
The project is coordinated by a small team based at the University of Oxford, led by Dr Jo Boyden, Young Lives Director.
Other senior staff include Professor Stefan Dercon (Oxford) and Professor Martin Woodhead (Open University).

Directorate
The Young Lives Directorate is part of the University of Oxford’s Department of International Development, Queen Elizabeth House (QEH) in Oxford, UK.
The Department of International Development (QEH) is the focus for the University’s research and teaching on these issues.
QEH approaches International Development from a multi and inter-disciplinary perspective, drawing on anthropology, economics, geography, history, law, politics and sociology. One of the centre's main activities is to conduct high-level research in order to understand the complex economic, social and political processes of change in countries in the poorer parts of the world.
The main Young Lives contacts based at QEH are Dr Jo Boyden (Director), Graham Bray (Programme Manger), Caroline Knowles (Communications Manager) and Kate Prudden (Project Coordinator).
