Workshops for school children in London

To accompany the Niños del Milenio photographic exhibition in September 2005, Young Lives, Save the Children UK and Canning House ran interactive workshops for school children in London to give them an insight into child poverty issues in Peru and the Millennium Development Goals. The workshop was structured around the exhibition itself, plus the Young Lives, Global Goals resource pack and the Young Lives Peru documentary film The Millennium Objectives: A Lost Opportunity?

Here are some of the participating children’s comments about the workshop:

“I got an insight into the extreme poverty in Peru which has really made me think how lucky I am. I liked seeing the children happy [in some of the exhibition photographs].”

“I’m extremely glad I came here. I saw life in Peru from a different, fascinating angle. The photos were amazing, and a wonderful insight into the lives of the people from both views: the child’s and the problematic point of view. The statistics were shocking and moving, and I’d love to help out in the future.”

“I really like that there is hope that poverty will end.”

“I liked the photographs very much. This is because it shows the diversity of Peru (as taken by 47 different photographers). Shows the realities of countries which suffer from poverty. Very touching…”

“Something new I learnt: I didn’t know there were no goals made to protect children. I learnt more about the sort of poverty Peruvian children live in.”

“I liked seeing the two videos because you can see both the good and bad parts of the country.”
