Susana Baca becomes Ambassador [archived item]

Susana Baca, the internationally-renowned Peruvian singer, became ambassador for the Young Lives project in Peru. As well as her celebrity status both in Peru and beyond, Susana Baca's life-long commitment to defending the human rights of the poorest, most vulnerable members of Peruvian society makes her an ideal representative for a project focusing on children living in poverty. Her own childhood experiences of growing up in poverty, her involvement in community kitchens providing meals for families in need and her work as a teacher in the poor neighbourhood of El Agustino have given Susana a particular insight into the lives of children living in poverty in Peru, and have strengthened her conviction in the need to defend the rights of all children.
