New Young Lives publications in our Technical Notes series

August 2008 releases in our Young Lives Technical Notes series:

Technical Note 10: Children's Perspectives on their Young Lives: Report on Methods for Sub-Studies (Peru Pilot)
Joy Johnston, August 2008. [PDF file 758 KB]

Alongside the Young Lives full-cohort surveys carried out every four years, Young Lives sub-studies are carried out to investigate
pre-identified themes in greater depth. This Technical Note was prepared following a pilot study of qualitative methods for research with children in Peru in April 2006.

Technical Note 11: Methods, Tools and Instruments for Use with Children Joy Johnston, August 2008. [PDF file 365 KB]
This Technical Note focuses on the qualitative and quantitative research methods, tools, and instruments that can be applied for research with children in the second and subsequent phases of data collection in the Young Lives project

Technical Note 12: Children's Well-being in Contexts of Poverty: Approaches to Research, Monitoring and Participation Laura Camfield, Natalia Streuli and Martin Woodhead, August 2008 [PDF file KB]
This paper outlines some of the major debates on research on child well-being. Well-being is understood by Young Lives to be about real people and the social contexts they inhabit. It can act as a lens - similar to culture - which recognises that outcomes of deprivation are influenced by children and their responses to and interpretation of events. Accessing children's views in the context of their communities is important and can increase the accuracy and credibility of research data.
