Young Lives Ethiopia to host stakeholder meeting

The Young Lives (YL) Ethiopia team  hosted a stakeholder meeting on education financing and poverty reduction on 1st September 2006 at the Ghion Hotel in Addis Ababa . It was a two-hour event aimed to contribute to sub-national plans to implement the country's second generation Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP).

The Development Assistance Group (DAG), which is composed of donor representatives and facilitated by the UNDP, was invited, along with key decision-makers from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Ministry of Women's Affairs and the Ministry of Capacity Building. Representatives from NGOs working on education initiatives also participated.

The workshop featured a presentation by the Principal Investigator of YL Ethiopia, Dr Tassew Woldehanna, from the Ethiopian Development Research Institute/ Dept of Economics Addis Ababa University, drawing on the recently published Young Lives  Working Paper 23 "How pro-poor is Ethiopia's Education Expansion? A benefit incident analysis of education since 1995/6." This was followed by discussion.
