YOUNG LIVES RESEARCH PROJECT

Part-time Quantitative Research Assistant (Ref: VG-08-022)

Grade 6: Salary £25,623 - £30,594 p.a. pro-rata

Young Lives is a research project, funded by DFID, on childhood poverty investigating the changing nature of childhood poverty in Ethiopia, India (Andhra Pradesh), Peru and Vietnam. Its purpose is to improve understanding of the causes and consequences of childhood poverty, in order to inform effective policy development and targeting of child welfare interventions.

The research assistant’s role will be to support Young Lives researchers and policy staff in both Oxford and the four Young Lives study countries including analysing quantitative data to address specific research questions, preparing summary reports from analyses, undertaking literature reviews, providing technical support to researchers and policy staff.
 
Applicants should have a degree in economics or related a social science discipline and a minimum of 2 years relevant post-graduation experience (either through studies or work) involving data analysis. They need excellent analytical and statistical skills (including Stata) preferably with experience of working with large household data sets from developing countries and communicating complex information in summary form. Good writing, communication and interpersonal skills are also essential. The post is available up to 30 June 2009, for between 50% and 60% time.
