Comment: Understanding poverty and well-being in a changing world

Poverty is a political phenomenon - power relations determine the distribution of opportunities and benefits - and poverty is multidimensional. However, the policy discourse evident in the last decade and in the MDGs lags behind our understanding of realities on the ground. This is the conclusion of a consultation that brought together a panel of leading poverty researchers in the UK to review the future directions of poverty research.
