International priorities
Alongside our work with national government and local policymakers, we aim to contribute to current international debates.
The priorities we have identified for 2010 to 2013 link to the three overarching policy and research themes which will guide the direction of our work over the next three years. Each of these themes relates to a range of global policy priorities, and we have identified a number of key objectives to focus our policy engagement work at both the international and country levels.
Using evidence from Theme 1 (the Dynamics of Childhood Poverty) we will focus on the impact of the food price and economic crisis, climate change, changes in the labour market and migration upon children, and contribute to debates around the Millennium Development Goals.
Linking Theme 2 (Children’s Well-being and Experiences of Poverty) and Theme 3 (Learning, Time-use and Life Transitions) we will encourage the use of research in the field of child protection, including around orphanhood, family separation, and child work. This will explore how inequalities and differential exposure to risk and vulnerability affect children’s health, education and social welfare and the role played by social protection in risk mitigation.
Under Theme 3 we will focus on debates around inequalities in education and learning, including early childcare and education, under the Education For All agenda.
