Professor Uma Vennam
Brief biography
Professor Uma Vennam is Rector and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of SPMVV, the Women’s University in Tirupati. She is a Professor of Social Work at SPMVV and leads the Young Lives qualitative research in India. Previously she has been involved in various projects dealing with rural livelihoods and poverty alleviation, HIV/AIDS, child labour and children’s work, and trafficking of women and children, working with various international agencies including DFID, UNICEF. and the World Bank. Uma has an MA in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences Bombay and a PhD from the University of East Anglia, UK.
