Our new series of Legacy Reports brings together over 20 years of Young Lives longitudinal research from Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam.

Young Lives’ unique mixed-method, longitudinal research offers a comprehensive, life-course perspective on how children develop over time. It explores skills development, learning progress, and educational outcomes, as well as the long-term effects of poor health and nutrition—including impacts on mental health. The research also examines family life, school-to-work transitions, labour market participation, and employment in low- and middle-income countries, following individuals from infancy into adulthood.
It highlights how inequality, gender, and external shocks—such as climate change, conflict, and COVID-19—interact and compound over time to shape these outcomes.
Alongside key findings emerging from over two decades of Young Lives’ quantitative and qualitative data, the Young Lives Legacy Reports feature the study's significant contributions to policy debates. They also include impact case studies demonstrating how Young Lives' research is driving change, the latest trends across all our themes from preliminary Round 7 data, and emerging opportunities for future research.
