British Foreign Secretary briefed by Young Lives Ethiopia Country Director
Mobility and migration
Policy
Ethiopia

Only days after the high-level launch of findings from Young Lives Ethiopia's sixth wave of qualitative longitudinal research (Qual 6) in Addis Ababa, Young Lives Ethiopia Country Director Alula Pankhurst met with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to share Qual 6 findings on migration, at an event organised by FCDO Ethiopia.

Yvette Cooper is seated to the left of Alula Pankhurst as he explains Qual 6 to her.

The findings show that migration is on the rise; domestic migrants are more prone to migrate internationally; and the drivers include economic problems – notably un(der)employment – the lack of a conducive business environment and conflict in many parts of the country. Stabilising the economy, promoting small businesses and prioritising peace are critical to stemming the migration tide.

With over two decades of vital support from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Young Lives has built an evidence base that continues to inform life-changing policymaking.
