Protecting the Most Vulnerable People in Vietnam from Climate Shocks: Exposure to Flooding and Crop Failures has Unequal Impact on Children’s Development and Learning

Vietnam is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to increasing extreme weather events and rising sea levels associated with climate change.  Through Young Lives two decades of research, during which we have followed the lives of 3,000 young people in Vietnam, our data has shown that childhood exposure to climate shocks, such as flooding and related crop failures affects children's nutrition, growth, cognitive skills, and access to education.

Development of an online food frequency questionnaire and estimation of misreporting of energy intake during the COVID-19 pandemic among young adults in Peru

During the COVID-19 pandemic Young Lives adapted to use remote data collection methods. including collaborating with others to adapt a dietary intake assessment.  In this article, the authors describe how a face to face questionnaire on food frequency was adapted, validated and self administered on line by 426 young Peruvian adults. They describe how this Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) was developed including the selection of food items, portion sizes, and food frequency response options.

Raising the Age of Marriage in India: Legislation Alone Will Not be Enough to Improve the Lives of Young Women and Their Children

Following the May 2022 parliamentary debate around raising the legal age of marriage for females in India from 18 to 21, a new proposed bill aims to improve the health and well-being of young women and their children, reduce the incidence of teenage pregnancies and support women to secure better education and work opportunities. Currently the legal marrying age for males is 21, so this proposed change would create gender parity in law.
