Young Lives is a holistic study and our research investigates multiple aspects of the experience of growing up in poverty and inequality in our study countries. Click on the feature box below to read more about our research projects, past and present.

Our research themes reflect the fact that our study participants are now young adults, and account for the changing world. Our four core research themes are Education and Skills, Employment, Health and Well-being and Family Lives and we have two cross-cutting themes, Gender, Poverty and Inequalities, Shocks and Crises: Climate, Covid and Conflict.

Young Lives’ two decades of research has led to over 900 publications providing insights and analysis on the drivers and impacts of poverty and inequality for childhood, youth and transitions to adulthood.  For our key findings, click the feature box below or see all publications.

Making Change Happen

Young Lives' pioneering research on how poverty and inequality affect the lives of disadvantaged children, adolescents and young adults in developing countries is providing the evidence base for informed policy making to change lives. Young Lives uses a theory of change model to plot how we effect this change from data collection to improvements in the life outcomes of children and young people.

Young Lives focuses on fostering trust, building relationships, and developing policy-relevant questions to frame our analysis at national and international levels.

Being on the ground in our study countries over a long period of time, and understanding specific nuances of local politics and national contexts, has enabled our country teams to establish long-term partnerships of trust and collaboration, particularly with government partners and policy decision-makers.
