Continuity and Change: Marriage and Parenthood Among Ethiopian Adolescents.

With changes brought about by education and urbanisation, adolescents and young people in Ethiopia have a greater say compared to previous generations in decisions about who, how and when they marry. Yet, despite this, customary and patriarchal norms still regulate marriage processes and practices, especially in rural areas, constraining girls’ and young women’s choices.

Understanding teenage fertility in Peru: An analysis using longitudinal data

Reducing the prevalence of teenage pregnancy remains an elusive goal for public policy in Peru.  In this article, just published in the Review of Development Economics, the authors use longitudinal data from the Young Lives Study in Peru to investigate which early circumstances and life changes might be the risk factors for teenage childbearing—about one out of five girls in the sample was a teenage mother.

Young Lives research has shown that adolescence provides a second crucial window of intervention to improve children's opportunities and well-being.
