Operationalizing the Global Goal on Adaptation with a Child-Responsive and Youth-Inclusive Lens at SB64

The importance of incorporating cross-cutting considerations within the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), including children, youth and demographic characteristics such as gender and age, was underscored by multiple Parties during COP30 negotiations. Following the adoption of the Baku Adaptation Roadmap (BAR) and Belém Addis Vision (BAV) to support the implementation of the GGA, the 64th Sessions of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies (SB64) arrives at a critical junction for the GGA.

Fair Pay, Fair Work: Prioritising Job Quality and Women’s Economic Empowerment alongside the Minimum Wage Debate in Ethiopia

The ongoing debate in Ethiopia over introducing a minimum wage offers an important opportunity to put job quality and women’s economic empowerment at the centre of labour market policy discussions. Using findings from Young Lives’ Round 7 survey (2023–24) on young people’s job quality and job preferences alongside evidence from Young Lives’ sixth wave of qualitative research (Qual 6), this policy brief does not advocate for or against establishing a minimum wage, nor does it propose a specific level.

A Guide to Young Lives Constructed Datasets: Rounds 1 to 7

The Young Lives study has conducted seven survey rounds since 2002, with the latest survey (Round 7) completed in 2023–2024. To make the data accessible and support the data users, the Young Lives study archives both the raw datasets and a constructed dataset for each of the study countries. The aim of this technical note is to provide detailed information to Young Lives data users on the information available in the constructed datasets from Round 1 to Round 7.

Economic inequalities in adolescents’ internalising symptoms: longitudinal evidence from eight countries

Research, mainly conducted in Europe and North America, has shown an inequitable burden of internalising mental health problems among adolescents from poorer households. Using data from the Young Lives longitudinal study in Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam, as well as data from longitudinal studies in Australia, Mexico, South Africa and the UK, this report investigates whether these mental health inequalities differ across a diverse range of countries and multiple measures of economic circumstances.
